ARB is a leading statutory professional regulator committed to upholding the standards of conduct, practice and competence of architects registered in the UK. Our role is critical in safeguarding the interests of the public while supporting the development of the profession of architects.

Our work has arguably never been more important as we respond to the continuing impact of the Grenfell Tower Fire and work with others in the sector to address some of the key findings of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Report. We also recognise the existential challenge presented by climate change and the need for the profession we regulate to take a leading role in ensuring the built environment sector responds appropriately to the sustainability challenges faced by the planet.

Operating across such a dynamic landscape, organisational agility must underpin all that we do, particularly as we embark on our next strategic period. As our new Director of Performance and Planning, you’ll have an opportunity to make a significant and valuable contribution as we seek to grow and continuously improve in every aspect of our work, growing in organisational maturity to be the best we can be.

In this role you will provide outstanding leadership and support to colleagues to drive improved impact, performance and value; modernising and elevating key functions (Finance, Audit and Risk, Business Planning, Performance Reporting and IT) in support of outstanding business performance. In doing so, you’ll bring sophisticated approaches, systems and processes, working closely with the Board and colleagues throughout the ARB to help maximise internal capabilities and business agility.

With particular functional strength in strategic financial management, performance reporting and risk oversight, you will be a strategic thinker with an understanding of organisational inter-dependencies and a track record of identifying and acting on opportunities to deliver continuous improvement.

We are looking for a credible and inclusive leader who has supported outstanding business performance in a commensurate role. The context in which your experience has been gained is less important than your capabilities, so we are open minded regarding your background, cognisant of the lessons we can learn from other industry sectors.  What is most important is your strategic performance and planning capability, your commercial and financial acumen and your commitment to operating in the public interest whilst supporting an important profession.

We are a great place to work, with consistently outstanding staff survey results and a positive and inclusive culture. We can offer a great career opportunity to a leader who is ready to broaden out. If you are a collaborative, highly motivated and developmental leader who is inspired by the valuable role we play, we look forward to hearing from you.
