Jayne Billam recently joined us as Principal Consultant in our Education team. She has over 20 years’ experience working within human resources in higher education, most recently as HR Director at Nottingham Trent University, as a member of the executive team delivering a number of large scale transformation projects, and prior to this HR Director at the University of Lincoln, playing an integral role in the evolution of the university. She was also the Treasurer of Universities HR (UHR) until January 2021, following several years as a Regional Chair and Board member.
Her focus at GatenbySanderson will be using her vast knowledge and experience of working within HE to deepen our connections with the HE HR community and developing our leadership and talent transformational services. She will be working closely with our Practice Lead, Julia Roberts and our HE Partner, Tessa Harrison.
Jayne is also a qualified coach and an NLP practitioner, coaching at senior executive level. She is a passionate advocate of the benefits of education and of her decision to leave the HE sector and join GatenbySanderson, Jayne says:
I am delighted to join GatenbySanderson. The majority of my career has been spent in higher education and I am really looking forward to bringing my understanding, knowledge and experience to support GS’s strategic ambitions and mission to, ‘find and develop leaders who shape a better society’; HE institutions transform lives and shape a better society, so the synergies are obvious.
The education team has become an established part of executive search in the sector, and it will be great to work with Julia, Tessa, the rest of the team, and other colleagues across GS, to share our insights and experiences with leadership teams, governing bodies, sector organisations, student bodies and individual candidates. I have seen the impact that transformational teams and leaders make, and it will be a privilege to support institutions to recruit and develop the next generation of leaders.
Jayne’s reputation saw her listed in the Top 100 HRDs in the public sector by HR Excellence, and she has been invited to presented at many sector events and conferences. Now as a member of the GatenbySanderson team, she will be delivering a session at the UHR conference this May entitled ‘Searching for HR’ and as part of her research for this she will be engaging with a number of sector leaders to gain their sense of what is needed to enhance the quality of diversity of leadership.
