Trustee - Digital, Technology and AI Trustee

Location – Can be based anywhere in the UK with a mix of online and in person meetings.

Remuneration – This is a voluntary position but includes reasonable expenses.

Time Commitment – On average one day per month.

Epilepsy Society is the UK’s only charity transforming the lives of people with epilepsy through world-leading research, advocacy and care. Our vision is to make the charity fit for the future by using our enviable legacy to push forward the boundaries of our own pioneering research and turn epilepsy on its head. We are at one of the most exciting and pivotal points in its 132-year history. As a board of Trustees, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to revolutionise the diagnosis and treatment of people with epilepsy and offer unprecedented hope for those with uncontrolled seizures.

As a Trustee, you will work in partnership with the Chair and Chief Executive to ensure that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and that the charity is focused on achieving these. You will help to ensure that the Trustee Board fulfils its duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the charity. You will be responsible for upholding the values of the Society and advocating for the inclusion of people from under-represented groups, especially people with epilepsy.

We are looking for an additional Trustee who is willing to be bold, brave and determined in helping us to drive change and who will understand the debilitating impact of epilepsy on a person’s life and employ their energy, passion and professional skills to enable our incredible team of researchers at our Chalfont Centre to continue to lead on and create innovative solutions for the highly personalised needs of the community.

People that are willing to do extra things and be excited and proud to make medical history.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Will have Senior Executive, and ideally non-executive, experience gained at Board level.
  • Experience in creating strategy and harnessing Digital, Data, Technology and AI – ideally in the health sector.
  • Experience in strengthening data and cyber security.
  • History of using data to drive insight and decision-making.
  • Ability to demonstrate a solid understanding of systems, cloud platforms, products and services.
  • An ability to demonstrate a working understanding of the growth of AI and its potential impacts in achieving our strategic objectives.
  • Will have the ability swiftly to acquire an understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • Will uphold the Society’s values – Caring, Accountable, Improving, Respectful, Open.
  • May have lived experience of epilepsy.
