One Borough, One Community, No one left behind

Barking & Dagenham is an ambitious borough. Growth is our middle name backed up by delivery. The three markets of London, two film studios, and a modern university are just some of the things we have delivered in recent years. But it’s not all bricks and mortar. We also focus on addressing inequalities and improving lives. People matter, and that’s why at the heart of our vision are the communities we serve and delivering on their aspirations.

Director of Property & Assets | £107,998 - £129,639

In this role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across a range of services including asset management of both commercial and council-owned assets, highways infrastructure, health & safety, and broad FM services. Working alongside our Director of Housing, Director of Public Realm and with our Innovation HUB, you will use data and insight to drive both performance and new ways of working to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of these services.

You will be the strategic asset lead for the authority, developing robust and accurate stock condition information to direct the development of a lifecycle of asset management. You will lead the development and delivery of a 5-year capital programme for the Council’s own property and land assets by establishing a capital delivery team.

Using your collaborative leadership style and key performance indicators, you will understand how to work with internal and external partners to deliver best-in-class service to our residents and communities. You will bring a focus on commercialisation to the services, seizing new opportunities to deliver positive outcomes for those living and working within the borough.

About you

With approximately 18,000 homes within your remit and more being built each day, we are looking for an experienced leader within property and asset management who has worked within a large, complex environment. You will have demonstrable experience of providing strategic leadership and vision to our property and asset management services, clearly setting out future aspirations. You will understand the legislative changes in our sector and both the challenges and opportunities that brings for an organisation like ours.

With a drive and ambition to do things differently, you will be someone who embraces change to drive service improvement, using quantitative and qualitative indicators to measure performance and devise future strategies.

You will be a natural collaborator, system leader, and outstanding communicator, able to build upon our well-established partnerships, ensuring there is collective focus and accountability on delivering positive change and action.

Ultimately, we are looking for you to embrace change, seize opportunities, and disrupt what is normal, to deliver positive outcomes for those living and working within the borough, ensuring no one is left behind.
