Great British Nuclear (GBN) is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero tasked with delivering the government’s long-term nuclear programme and supporting the government’s ambition to deliver up to 24GW of nuclear power in the UK by 2050.

To deliver this ambitious programme of works, GBN is building a team of experienced professionals and is currently seeking to appoint a Communications & Government Relations Director.

The Communications and Government Relations function at GBN will be instrumental in shaping the company's external narrative, building robust relationships with key stakeholders, and influencing policy and regulatory environments to support the development of new nuclear projects. As the company evolves, the Communications and Government Relations function will play a pivotal role in enhancing GBN's reputation, securing stakeholder buy-in, and navigating the complex landscape of public perception, government policy, and industry regulation.

The Director of Communications and Government Relations will act as the primary representative of GBN in its dealings with government, media, and public stakeholders. The role will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with GBN’s goals and values while managing the company’s public image during critical periods such as technology selection, site identification, and procurement processes.

GBN are interested in hearing from experienced leaders with extensive experience in communications, public affairs, or government relations. The successful candidate will bring proven experience in driving complex communications and government relations strategies, preferably within regulated industries.

Given the senior nature of the role, it is also essential for the role holder to have the ability to engage effectively in high-level interactions and provide the right level of constructive challenge, advice and fresh thinking.

This is an exciting and challenging role which represents a unique opportunity to help deliver a critical national mandate, for the benefit of generations to come.
