Action today for a brighter tomorrow

South Gloucestershire Council is a dynamic and ambitious authority, committed to innovation and transformation. We pride ourselves on being a supportive and inclusive workplace where all employees can thrive. Our new Council Plan is dedicated to creating a fairer and greener future, grounded in extensive and direct community engagement. With an ambitious administration, we are looking for a visionary leader to drive this forward and help us seize all the opportunities available to us.

As the Executive Director of Resources, you will lead the effective working of the council as a corporate organisation. This role will see you manage a significant net budget of approximately £52M and a capital budget of around £20M, while leading a broad range of corporate enabling services. These include Finance, Legal and Democratic Services, Human Resources, IT and Digital, Property Services, and Strategy, Engagement, and Change.

Having already agreed a balanced budget for the next two years, there’s never been a better time to join us. In this role, you will provide strategic advice to the Chief Executive, fellow Chief Officers, and elected members on all financial matters, ensuring all financing and funding models for the council are considered, explored, and implemented as appropriate. Your role will lead the council’s major change and transformation programmes, embedding a whole-organisation approach to organisational development as well as the delivery of our digital council ambitions.

About You

We are looking for a financially qualified professional with significant senior management and leadership experience within a similar setting to South Gloucestershire. You will have a strategic vision for how these corporate functions can enable the delivery of the wider council objectives, particularly in the context of the service areas directed. Given the scale of this role, you will possess excellent leadership and people management skills, with a proven track record of driving organisational change in an inclusive way. You will have a collaborative approach to leadership and be able to demonstrate your ability to build long-term strategic partnerships and relationships to create joined-up solutions for residents and communities.

Why Join Us?

South Gloucestershire is a great place to live and work. Located north and east of Bristol, our towns are expanding in both population and industry. With easy access to Bristol, Bath, and Cardiff, as well as the Cotswolds, there is a broad appeal to potential applicants. We benefit from high employment, longer than average life expectancy, and many Good and Outstanding schools.

We are an organisation that values collaboration and inclusivity, with a real commitment to sustainable and meaningful growth. Our Chief Officers are genuinely caring about the services and outcomes they deliver to residents, and there is always an ambition to do more, even when services are already seen as being good.
