Closing the attainment gap for pupils facing disadvantage in the UK by harnessing the power of tutoring is at the heart of what we do. Action Tutoring is seeking an inspiring and dynamic Chief Executive Officer to lead our growing charity, steering our vision of improving education for those most in need. In 2023-24, nearly 62,000 hours of tutoring were received by over 6,000 disadvantaged pupils. These were delivered by nearly 1,900 volunteer tutors, leading to improved educational outcomes.

As CEO, you will have a proven track record of senior leadership at the Board level, ideally within the non-profit sector. You will be responsible for developing and executing Action Tutoring’s strategic plan, ensuring we meet our ambitious goals while navigating external challenges and opportunities in the education sector. A passion for education and closing the attainment gap is essential, alongside the ability to build and foster relationships with key stakeholders including school leaders, funders, and policymakers.

You will have a strong understanding of the importance of team and culture, able to inspire and motivate others to achieve our goals. You will have strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and ensuring long-term financial sustainability. Experience and enthusiasm for fundraising will be crucial, alongside a deep commitment to driving impact.

You will work closely with the Board of Trustees, contributing to governance and strategic risk management. You will act as the face of Action Tutoring, representing the charity externally to a wide variety of stakeholders and raising our profile in national education policy discussions. Strong advocacy and communication skills are needed to help cement tutoring as a key component of UK school education.

This is a unique opportunity to lead a high-impact charity with a passionate and motivated staff team that is committed to inclusion, collaboration, and changing lives. If you are a resilient, adaptable leader with a commercial mindset and a deep commitment to equity in education, we would love to hear from you.
