Impress strives to foster a society with access to reliable information. We do this by safeguarding the highest standards of news, empowering individuals to find sources they can trust and to get effective redress when they experience media harm. As technological advances threaten the integrity of our information spaces, public trust in news is at a historic low.  We champion free expression by safeguarding the highest standards of news and staying the overreach of powerful interests.

With our purpose-driven approach Impress wants to make a lasting impact on the ways news is produced and published. We are committed to creating a more informed, transparent, and trustworthy information environment that benefits everyone.

We are the only press regulator to be approved by the Press Recognition Panel under the Royal Charter on self-regulation of the press. We are funded by member subscription fees and a long-term funding agreement with the Independent Press Regulation Trust (IPRT).

We are seeking a new Chair to lead our Board and work with our CEO to deliver a new phase of expansion and impact. This is a pivotal moment in time for us. The next chapter for Impress is about tackling complex issues such as news literacy and focusing on public understanding of ethical standards and rights of redress. As we uphold the Leveson principles, we will be growing and expanding our membership, and further developing our commercial offering.

This is a visible and influential strategic leadership appointment in which you will hold responsibility for our strategic direction and governance. You will be a capable ambassador for Impress, confident on a public platform. You will engage with a wide range of influential stakeholders across regulatory, commercial and media spheres and exceptional partnership-building skills are essential. We are seeking an individual with stature and an excellent personal record of achievement. Unimpeachable integrity is a must, and you will already be trusted across different communities for your objectivity, balance and judgement.
