The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) is the Chartered body for health and safety professionals. Founded in 1945, we are a charity with a simple vision – a safe and healthy world of work for everyone. With more than 50,000 members in over 130 countries, we’re an organisation with a global outlook and influence.

This is an exciting time for IOSH. We have recently launched our new strategy, Activate 2028 and we are about to undergo significant transformational change in our systems and governance.

We are now seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the Chair of the Trustees, a pivotal role focused on providing leadership and strategic direction to advance our mission of promoting safe and sustainable work environments globally. Our new  Chair will work closely with the Board and Chief Executive to drive transformation, enhance organisational governance and champion our aspirations for the next ten years.

Key responsibilities include fostering a clear vision for IOSH, guiding us through significant change, while managing complex discussions. The successful candidate will ensure excellent governance, leverage strategic skills and promote continuous improvement, in alignment with IOSH’s goals. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential, as the Chair will form strong relationships with our key various stakeholders and will be a highly credible advocate for workplace safety and health.

This is a high-profile and influential position. We are looking for someone with significant leadership experience gained in an executive or non-executive roles and ideally with some previous chairing experience, alongside a robust understanding of strategic and commercial priorities. Politically adept, you will bring a background in leading and supporting change, driving governance excellence and the ability to lead, motivate and develop a high-performing board. With a demonstrable interest in the impact of our work, you will champion our business critical mission and values and our commitment to our EDI priorities. The Chair is an Independent appointment and the appointee cannot be a current  member of IOSH.

This is a unique opportunity for a passionate leader to champion workplace safety and health, helping to shape the future of working conditions worldwide.
