Together for Mental Wellbeing is a national charity that supports people with mental health distress to lead fulfilling and independent lives as part of their communities. Formed in 1879, we are England’s oldest mental health charity. We have a long history of being creative, innovative, and progressively thinking, and we continue to be at the forefront of delivering high-quality and responsive social health care.

We offer a wide variety of support services to help people deal with the personal and practical impacts of living with mental distress, from one-to-one support in the community to supported accommodation to working alongside people in the criminal justice system. The people who use our services are at the heart of everything we do – they influence and shape the support they receive from us and how our services and the organisation are run.

The role:

Together for Mental Wellbeing is seeking a new Chair of the Board of Trustees to guide our innovative charity into an exciting new chapter of growth and impact. This is a unique opportunity to lead a values-driven organisation supported by a diverse and passionate team of Trustees committed to empowering individuals experiencing mental distress to live life on their terms.

As Chair, you will provide strategic leadership to the Board, fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture, shaping the strategic vision and ensuring effective governance. You will be a key advocate for the charity, building relationships and championing our mission to external stakeholders, working closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to amplify Together for Mental Wellbeing’s reach and influence in the mental health sector. With your leadership, we aim to expand our reach, championing the voices of individuals experiencing mental distress, and driving bold, ambitious change in the sector.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in mental health, social care, or the criminal justice system, coupled with strong relationship-building skills, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to our values. If you are ready to inspire boldness and ambition in our journey of growth, we would love to hear from you. Together, we can transform lives.

Together for Mental Wellbeing values and encourages diversity and inclusion within our organisation.  We are committed to creating a workplace where you can be your authentic self, welcoming applications from people from diverse communities and backgrounds who share our values. We are committed to making any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process and positively encourage applications from those with lived experience.
