About the role

This role forms part of NCA’s broader operational leadership within the NCA and will be expected to work closely in collaboration with the wider NCA Directorates to enhance the understanding of current and emerging serious organised crime (SOC) threats, the delivery of an effective 4P response (Pursue, Prevent, Protect and Prepare) and the delivery of highly effective tactical interventions.

The role of Director NECC supports Director General (DG) Threats and DG NCA in leading the whole of system operational response to economic crime, as well as shaping NCA response to priority, serious and organised crime threats. As you will play a leading role in coordinating the wider UK and international response to these threats, the ability to influence both within and outside of the NCA, in particular through partnerships with the finance and tech industries will be critical.

The NECC drives the law enforcement response to Economic Crime, which draws on key contributions from the NCA’s own intelligence and investigative elements, the City of London Police, the Metropolitan Police Service, the nine Regional Organised Crime Units and local forces in England and Wales, Police Scotland, and the Police Service of Northern Ireland. It helps prevent economic crime and protect and prepare victims through joint work with law enforcement, industry, regulators and others. International work, with law enforcement and FIU partners, and overseas tech companies, is also critical.

To succeed you will need to be an inclusive leader, able to demonstrate ideally more than one specialism in a knowledge of economic crime, a knowledge of strategic crime reduction approaches, or working with the private sector, in particular, in the financial and technology sectors.

With a demonstrable commitment to lead, develop and nurture a highly performing, diverse and talented workforce, you will also bring proven experience in developing partnerships. These might be across government, the UK public and private sectors, and with international partners at a strategic level. You will also be an excellent communicator, engaging on complex issues to a wide audience, including ministers and the media.

The ability to articulate a strategic forward vision for a large, complex organisation or system, and to lead and deliver change, with a track record of managing political and operational risks and delivering substantial improvements to increase operational effectiveness and value for money, will be critical.

As an inclusive employer, experience of delivering interventions that ensure that Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) is embedded in the organisation’s way of working, fostering a culture of trust which enables people to speak up, feel safe and advocate for others, will also be important.

In return, as well as your remuneration, the National Crime Agency contributes 28.97% of salary towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
