The CMA is the UK’s principal competition and consumer protection authority. We help people, businesses and the UK economy by promoting competitive markets and tackling unfair behaviour. Our ambition is to promote an environment where people can be confident they are getting great choices and fair deals, competitive, fair-dealing businesses can innovate and thrive and the whole UK economy can grow productively and sustainably.

The CMA is an ambitious organisation, with a progressive and innovative vision and this is a unique and exciting opportunity to join our senior executive team at a time when the CMA is taking on new powers and responsibilities and as we deliver major transformational change internally.

Our people are our biggest asset and we are focused on developing and maintaining resilient organisational capacity and capability and driving performance and delivery across a range of professional disciplines. We have grown in scale, expanded across the UK and diversified our talent pool in recent years, but there is still work to be done including the delivery of a digital-first people transformation programme to support and develop our talented colleagues. As a values-led organisation, we foster a culture of inclusive leadership, innovation and professionalism among colleagues at all levels and we strive to make the CMA a great place to work. Championing this is a key focus for our new Chief People Officer and you will play a vital part in shaping our culture, our organisation and in enabling us to deliver our purpose driven mission.

With a relevant professional qualification (Chartered Fellow/fully qualified member of the CIPD), you will be an accomplished leader with a track record of having led the HR or people function within a similarly complex organisation. You will demonstrate the ability to shape policy and strategy, manage and develop high-performing teams and will bring a successful track record of leading significant people-focused change programmes and using digital transformation to drive improvements in the provision of people-related advice and services. You will bring outstanding interpersonal and influencing skills, be politically astute with excellent relationship-building and communication skills and will demonstrate the strategic vision and determination to get things done in this uniquely interesting and demanding role.

The CMA is a hugely rewarding, diverse and stimulating place to work – we offer an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so. All CMA staff enjoy generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, and favourable consideration of flexible working.

The CMA is an accredited Disability Confident Employer, and we are an equal opportunities employer, welcoming suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds. We recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition, as outlined in the Civil Service Commission's recruitment principles.
