Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest and busiest NHS Teaching Trusts, and one of the most complex providers of acute, community and specialist health services in the country.  Across our 5 hospitals and through our community services, we provide care to over 2 million patients each year, employ over 19,000 staff, and have a turnover of £1.5 billion. We provide a comprehensive range of local services to the residents of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire, and also some highly specialist services to all parts of England.

The size and complexity of the Trust is reflected in our estate which has an asset value of £350 million, 140 buildings, and a footprint of 134 acres. With an estates budget of £34 million and 140 staff, our infrastructure is among the most complex and vital in the country, and the Estates Directorate is responsible for ensuring that mission critical services to patients are maintained at all times.

As our Estates Director, you will provide strong and inspirational leadership to ensure the provision of excellent Estates services, promoting high quality patient and client care in a complex acute and community setting. Responsible for the effective and economic management of the Trust’s Estates buildings and engineering services, you will manage all Estates services through either directly employed staff or delivered by independent service contractors and ensure that systems are in place to deliver a consistently high standard of service. You will also be responsible for leading and implementing a clear Trust Estate Strategy and for ensuring that the Estate elements of the Trust Capital Programme are delivered to time and budget.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Estates Manager, with a background of leading direct Estates services in large and complex organisations. You should be a Chartered Engineer, ideally with a full corporate membership of CIBSE, IMechE, IEE, or other professional engineering institution. Detailed knowledge and experience of managing major capital construction projects and procurement will also be essential to this role.

Understanding the importance of a hands-on approach, you will work effectively with partners, whilst leading, developing, and supporting the Trust’s Estates workforce. With clear personal values that align to ours, and a commitment to delivering excellent services to customers, and the ability to inspire our dispersed workforce of multi-skilled staff, this is an exciting role offering the opportunity to positively improve the experience of those accessing our services.

If the opportunity to contribute to a complex, world-class, values-led organisation interests you, please contact our recruitment partners GatenbySanderson via Will McAlpine, Niamh Blair, or Robin Staveley at will.mcalpine@gatenbysanderson.com.

Closing date for applications: 9am Monday 3 February

Stakeholder sessions and final interviews: Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 March
