At the Health and Safety Executive our mission is to protect people and places. We are a modern and independent regulator with a wide reach across many parts of society.

Following the Grenfell Tower Tragedy, the Building Safety Act 2022 created the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) which sits within our Building Safety Division. The BSR is responsible for implementing a new regulatory regime and strategy for higher-risk residential buildings in England, overseeing the safety and performance of the wider built environment, regulating and driving cultural change, and increasing the competence in this building profession. As the leader of HSE’s Building Safety Division, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to lead its delivery, playing a pivotal role in driving and enforcing the necessary pace of remediation. This will mean delivering step change in industry's management of systemic building risks and the effectiveness of building control, and delivering on key aspects of the Government’s response to the Grenfell Public Inquiry Phase 2 report.

Your passion to make a difference and to lead from the front will be key in the successful delivery of these reforms and in seeking opportunities to reform and improve the wider regulatory landscape.

We are looking for an authoritative and credible leader with the personal qualities to influence and inspire confidence both internally and externally, from industry leaders and Ministers to residents. With a strong track record of delivering strong operational performance within a complex regulatory environment, you will have led large, complex organisations, providing visible and inspiring leadership, building capability and championing innovation and cultural change in support of strategic objectives.

This role will be both seriously challenging and extremely rewarding - if you think you’ve got what it takes, we would like to hear from you.

HSE is a Disability Confident employer and welcomes encourage applications from a diverse range of backgrounds from both the public and private sectors.
